Senior Belt/Instructor Code of Conduct

Senior students play a vital role in the personal and athletic development of a students. Senior belts are role models who convey the values and goals of the dojo. The following guidelines are intended to help develop students into well-rounded, confident, and successful individuals.

Respect: Treat everyone fairly, regardless of religion, gender, origin, color, sexual orientation, political beliefs, or economic status.

Safety: Prioritize the safety of all students in your care.

Constructive Feedback: Focus comments and criticism on performance, not the individual.

Professional Standards:

  • Maintain high personal standards and project a positive image of Karate.
  • Refrain from publicly criticizing students, members, or colleagues.

Language and Conduct: Avoid profane, insulting, harassing, or offensive language, both verbal and non-verbal.

Appropriate Training: Ensure activities are suitable for the student’s age, experience, ability, and fitness level to maintain a safe environment.

Medical Cooperation: Work with students on managing medical and psychological concerns.

Continuous Improvement: Seek opportunities for professional development and self-awareness.

Rule Adherence: Stay informed on all WTKO Rules, Regulations, and Criteria.

Respect: Treat fellow instructors, students, and volunteers with respect, both in victory and defeat, and encourage students to do the same.

Academic Consideration: Be mindful of students’ academic pressures that may affect their training attendance.

Parental Involvement: For minors, communicate and cooperate with parents or guardians on decisions affecting the child’s development.

Boundaries: Do not engage in intimate or sexual relationships with minor students. Such behaviour is a violation of Canadian law and is strictly prohibited.

Dignity: Respect the dignity of students; harassment or abuse, verbal or physical, is unacceptable.

Uniform: Teach in an approved uniform and belt at all times.

Collaboration: Work cooperatively and positively with all members of Nikkō Karate and WTKO.

Dress Code: Instructors and advanced karateka must maintain personal hygiene and project a positive image of leadership.

  • Wear a white gi with the appropriate belt. A white undershirt may be worn.
  • Remove all jewelry, or tape it if removal is not possible.
  • Keep finger and toenails trimmed.
